Hon. Ohaka joins in fight against rape, drug abuse FORMER lawmaker in the Emohua Local Government Area Legislative Assembly, Chief Hon. Fubara Ohaka, has promised his support in the fight against drug abuse and rape. Ohaka also commended the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in state and the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, and Sen. Andrew Uchendu, for their support. Protest as Belemaoil sacks 150 worker    SACKED workers of J plus G Global Gas/Oil Field, subsidiary of Belema Producing Limited, have staged a peaceful protest at the company's headquarters in Port Harcourt, over non-payment of their outstanding salaries and benefits. The over 150 alleged sacked workers who, lamentes the unpaid terminal benefits, noted that they were no longer interested in the job, but their payment. 10 senior police officers dismissed, 8 reduced in ranks The Police Service Commission, PSC, has dismissed 10 senior police officers from the Nigeria Police Force. The commission also reduced the ranks of eight other officers over various cases of unprofessional conducts in the line of duty. The dismissed officers were one Superintendent of Police, SP  five Deputy Superintendents of Police, DSP, and four Assistant Superintendents of Police, ASP.   A Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP  a Chief Superintendent of Police,  CSP,  four Superintendents of Police, SP  one Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Police were reduced in rank.  In a statement issued by the  Commission and signed by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the commission took the decision at its 8th Plenary Meeting which spanned three weeks. Panel begins grilling Magu on misconduct allegations in Aso Rock A panel set up to investigate the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has commenced grilling the EFCC boss on the alleged misconducts against him.  The panel is sitting at the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa (Old Banquet Hall) Abuja.  It would be recalled that the the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami had earlier written to President Muhammadu Buhari on why the EFCC boss should be replaced having been rejected many times for confirmation by the National Assembly.  Similarly, the former Director General of the Department of State Service, DSS, Lawal Daura had also written what was said to be damaging report against Magu to the senate.

Why DSS arrested EFCC Chairman, Magu The Department for State Services, DSS, Ibrahim  Magu, has arrested the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged financial misconducts. Reports say Magus was arrested over allegations that he owned four properties and have allegedly transferred funds abroad through a third party. It was learned that in 2016, DSS accused the EFCC boss of living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired Air Commodore. The DSS report said on December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment. It was also alleged that Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m per annum. Police recover 24 babies from factory in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has burst a baby factory in Port Harcourt, and recovered 24 babies and four pregnant teenagers. The babies which were recovered by operatives of the command were between the ages of one and two years. Addressing press men while parading the suspects in Port Harcourt, yesterday, the Commissioners of Police in the state, Mustapha Dandaura, not ed that the syndicate was uncovered on Tuesday around 3.30pm following an operation of Eagle Crack Unit of the Police in the state. Dandaura, who was represented by the Command's spokesman, Nnandi Omoni, said that the babies currently receiving medical attention at the Police clinic, adding investigations had commenced to identify other suspects at large. Vehicle inspection official instigates death of pure water seller

Omorodion (middle) with his other colleagues  An official of the Nigeria's Vehicle Inspection Unit (VIO) identified as Mr Noah Omorodion has accidentally caused the death of a sachet water seller in Sapele area of Benin City. The incident occurred Wednesday, the 27th May, 2015, when the official in question, in the line of his duty, impounded an unmarked AUDI wagon vehicle by first east circular road junction, for improper registration. The VIO official had ordered the driver of the vehicle to alight while he took charge of the steering with an unnamed colleague joining him on the passengers seat.  It was learned that Omorodion proceeded to drive the vehicle to their office only for traffic to be held down by the traffic lights at the junction.  It was also gathered that while this was going on, the driver of the impounded vehicle rushed in from and started struggling with the official in an attempt to get back his car. Rivers community shuts down LNG over neglect

THE Rumuji Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has closed down Greenville Liquefied Natural Gas operating in their area over alleged neglect and marginalisation of the community by the firm. The community leaders took the action on Monday after several calls on the management of the company to resolving lingering issues around Memorandum of Understanding and Environmental Impact Assessment report the firm conducted in the area. The community stated that it would occupy the company for 14 days unless their needs are addressed. Supreme Court sacks Bayelsa governor-elect, deputy

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has sacked the governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo. The court on Thursday in a unanimous decision by a five-man panel of Justices led by Justice Mary Odili, held that Degi-Eremieoyo submitted a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The apex ruled that the Form CF 001 Degi-Eremieoyo submitted to INEC for the purpose of the November 16, 2019, governorship election in the state, had false information of fundamental nature. Justice Ejembi Eko, who delivered the lead judgement affirmed the Judgement of the Fedel High Court in Abuja November 12, 2019, which disqualified Degi-Eremieoyo from participating in the governorship poll. The apex court held that since Degi-Eremieoyo shared a joint ticket with the governor-elect, his disqualification invalidated their nomination by the All Progressive Congress, APC. THE President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, lending his voice to the debate of running an overbloated legislature, has backed the bicameral style of legislature, rejecting the call for a unicameral legislature for Nigeria. Sen. Lawan stated on Monday at the third convocation of the Nigerian Institute of Legislative and Development Studies (NILDS), that Nigeria’s diversity is the basis for bicameral legislature. He explained that with a single parliamentary house, the ethnic minorities in the country will be underrepresented in parliament.
