THE people of Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State has urged the Governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, to steer clear the issues of Oil Mining Lease, OML, 11, noting that issues concerning the oil field would be handles by the federal government.
The people also unveiled set out modalities on how oil exploration could resume in Ogoni area.
These were contained in a communique issued by the people at the end of Ogoni General Assembly convened by the Conscience of Ogoni People, COOP, at Zaakpon, Khana Local Government Area.

The leader of COOP, Chief Gani Topba, however said: “We have agreed that Gov. Wike and the government of Rivers State through any means should steer clear from the Ogoni oil.
“We have agreed that president Buhari should direct the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to take over the OML 11 ogoni oil field and have a discussion with the ogoni people. This means ogoni people have endorsed NNPC to take over OML 11. Any other company clamoring to take over OML 11 should keep clear.
“ The Ogoni people have agreed that the President should direct the Attorney General of the Federation to file in a request for the name of Ken Saro-Wiwa to be cleared as the first condition to drill Ogoni oil.
“ The general assembly have agreed that the template of MOSOP and KAGOTE as condition for drilling ogoni oil is invalid and the oil document is the Ogoni Bill of Right and anything aside that is non and void.
“The President of Nigeria should direct the Minister of State for Petroleum and NNPC GMD to come to ogoniland and hold meeting with ogoni people on the way forward of how to drill ogoni oil.
“The president or minister should not receive any delegation on the issue of OML11 on whichever capacity outside people that we may deemed fit.
